The following activities will help you understand more about conflict management and assist you in beginning to learn more about yourself and how you deal with conflict.
Activity 2
Situation Reactions - How Would YOU React?
Think of a situation, in which you are experiencing or have experienced conflict with a person, ask yourself the following five questions and please respond in the discussion forum (you may find it helpful to work your conflict through by using the evaporating cloud tool).
*How will we deal with this conflict between us?
*What would make this interaction /relationship valuable?
*What are the outcomes we want from the meeting/relationship/ interaction?
*What do we need to agree to create the environment we want?
*What can we count on from each other?

Read the following statements and determine whether they demonstrate conflict management or not.
Identify what each statement is doing. Do they... demonstrate conflict management OR do they NOT demonstrate conflict management
Provide a brief rationale for your answers.
Statements:
1. Brings disagreement out in the open
2. Communicates the positions of those involved in the conflict to all concerned.
3. Tries to appease everyone – tell people what they want to hear.
4. Help de-excalate conflicts.
5. Avoid conflict (pretends to self there isn’t any).
6. See's disagreements as personal, rather than about issues or situations that can be addressed.
7. Belief that problems are caused by others, and therefore remains closed to other points of view.
8. Attempts to resolve conflict by articulating a larger goal that everyone values.
9. Attempts to resolve conflict by finding a position everyone can accept.
